The summer holidays are here – so to kick off the months of downtime ahead, we're delighted to bring you some ideas for inspiring and useful books from literary agent, teacher and author, Kate Scarborough...
With football, tennis and the Olympics livening up our summer, I thought I would mention some wonderful sporting books, old and new, to engage all readers – even the most reluctant.
For older readers aged 10+, award-winning by Mal Peet is a rich and complex read for those who love football and those who don’t. Hot off the press novel, by Roy Peachey is a compelling, powerful dual narrative about running and what matters through the eyes of a contemporary young girl and Eric Liddel, the Olympic gold medallist of 1924.
For 8+ readers, is the first in the football-mad Jamie Johnson series by Dan Freedman. by Noel Streatfield is a firm favourite and by Elizabeth Laird fuels dreams of becoming a runner with family drama. by Brian Moses and Roger Stevens is a funny and easily digestible way into sport and poetry. Happy reading!
