Money can be a tricky subject for families to talk about, and as children get older and start having more access to their own savings, the topic can swiftly turn into the elephant in the room. So how can we parents use practical lessons and experiences to ensure our children have the best possible understanding of saving, budgeting, investments – and, of course, the all-important tax and pensions?

For the next instalment of our finance focus series in partnership with , we asked Wealth Planner Swaati Taylor to talk us through the various things that sixth formers, young adults and their parents need to bear in mind when they’re planning their finances – for university and beyond (remember: it’s never too early to start thinking about your pension!)…

Our video covers:

  • Guidance for parents about how to talk to children and young adults about money
  • How to teach university-aged children about budgeting and managing their finances
  • What young adults need to know about tax – and things to consider once you start earning
  • How to talk to young adults about investing – and what they need to bear in mind
  • The right age to start planning for retirement
