Dauntsey's 1st XV Crowned National U18 Plate Champions
Dauntsey’s is celebrating the perfect end to an incredible journey for the 1st XV, who triumphed in the RFU Continental Tyres National Plate Competition with a stunning 55-35 victory over St Anselm’s College
Dauntsey's 1st XV rugby team has been crowned National U18 Plate Champions after a thrilling final against St Anselm’s College, Birkenhead, at Ealing Trailfinders Stadium. In front of an electrifying crowd of almost 2,000 spectators, including over 500 Dauntsey’s pupils, and many staff and parents, the team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a 55-35 victory.
The road to the final began in September, with 128 teams competing in the national tournament. Dauntsey’s battled through six hard-fought rounds, taking on some of the country’s strongest rugby schools. Their campaign saw them defeat Bishop Wordsworth’s, Bryanston, The Oratory, Blundell’s, and The Skinners’ School before booking their place in the final.
Played on a fast 4G pitch at Ealing Trailfinders, the team executed their game plan superbly. Fly-half Tom Campbell and scrum-half Matthew Nocton orchestrated field position with precision, while captain Henry Taylor led with authority, supported by vice-captain Alfie Shears. The team’s attacking play was relentless, with prop Scott Pickford scoring three of Dauntsey’s eight tries. Tom Campbell was named ‘Man of the Match’ by the commentary team after an outstanding individual performance.
Director of Sport, Marcus Olsen, reflected on the team’s achievement: '
The 1st XV has had an exceptional season, culminating in an emphatic victory against St Anselm’s College in the final. On the way, they have beaten a number of excellent rugby schools. They did not allow St Anselm’s into the game, and our speed of attack and skill level cut them apart throughout the match. It was a complete team performance from an outstanding group of players who have worked hard all season on the training pitch and been superb role models off the field.'
This victory marks a historic moment for Dauntsey’s rugby, celebrating not only the team’s talent but also the dedication and teamwork that have defined their season.
