King’s Worcester Rowers Present Cheque to Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven
Rowers from King’s Worcester Boathouse were delighted to welcome Jacquie Clements from Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven (WBUH) recently, following their incredible overnight row that raised over £7000 for the charity.
Boat Club Captains, Amelia Venables and Jude Austin, presented a cheque for £7046.03 to former King's Worcester parent Jacquie, Patient Support Manager at WBUH, along with her daughter Ellie, a keen rower who attended King’s Worcester until 2012.
Jacquie met many of the rowers who had taken part in the challenge to personally thank them, as well as explaining more about the work of the charity and how the money raised will be used.
In December, current and former pupils, along with staff from King’s Worcester, completed their annual charity challenge to row one million metres, raising the incredible amount for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and smashing their fundraising target by £3,500.
This year, the challenge also saw participants ride over seven hundred thousand metres on indoor bikes, the combined total distance to Seville, where the upcoming Easter Senior Rowing Camp will be held.
Jacquie commented: '
We are so grateful to the Boathouse team for raising an incredible amount of money. We rely on the donations from the public to help support over 800 newly diagnosed patients in Worcestershire each year, as well as those further along their journey.
'This money will be used to pay for crucial items including chemo care boxes and information packs, as well as funding dedicated nursing staff and enabling our ongoing educational work.'
The charity, based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, supports breast cancer patients throughout their treatment. It requires £250,000 a year and receives no funding from the NHS.
