King’s Students Succeed in Securing Oxbridge Offers
King’s Worcester has announced that five of its Sixth Form students have received Oxbridge offers. This takes the total number of offers received from the two universities over the past four years to 25.
The School’s success in securing Oxbridge offers continues to buck the trend for independent schools, with King’s Worcester’s offer rate standing at 33%, significantly higher than the average of 20%.
The students receiving offers this year include King’s Worcester’s current Head of School, Eric D, along with James C, Senior Scholar, and Martha E, King’s Scholar.
The full list of students offered places is:
- Lola B – Classics, Downing College, Cambridge
- James C – Engineering, Peterhouse College, Cambridge
- Eric D – Linguistics, Clare College, Cambridge
- Martha E – Engineering, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge
- Polly H – English, Homerton College, Cambridge
Dr Alison Oliver, Acting Head, said: '
We are so proud of all our students who have worked incredibly hard to secure offers, and congratulate each of them on this outstanding achievement. The Oxbridge preparation programme we offer, run by Head of Oxbridge Applications, Dr McLaverty-Head, alongside the extensive support offered by our teachers, maximises their chances of achieving this exciting next step in their education.'
King’s Worcester prides itself on its student support structure for Oxbridge applications, which begins in the Lower Sixth Form. Wider reading presentations are given by students to their peers via the Sixth Form academic society, which helps them develop their interest in their chosen subject areas.
King’s holds a dedicated Oxford and Cambridge preparation day in the Summer Term of their Lower Sixth year, coupled with one-to-one meetings with Dr McLaverty-Head. Throughout the Autumn Term, students benefit from further support in completing personal statements and additional forms, mock interview and entrance test practice, and a series of final preparation sessions.
This latest achievement for King’s Worcester reinforces its position as one of the top-performing schools in the West Midlands. In December, the School was ranked one of the top ten independent secondary schools in the West Midlands in the Sunday Times’ Parent Power Schools Guide. The Guide rates the country’s 900 secondary schools based on academic excellence, with King’s Worcester the only independent school in Worcestershire to have been ranked in the West Midlands Top 10 for four consecutive years.
