Taunton School named as one of the best schools for sport in the UK
Taunton School has been named as one of the best schools in the UK for sport, ranking 14th in School Sport magazine’s Top 200 Sporting Schools of 2024.
With more weighting rewarding schools who succeed across a range of sports, Taunton School has received this accolade for its exceptional results throughout the year, as well as the vast range of its sport provision, which saw 120 teams across 24 different sports play 918 fixtures, and plenty of national and regional competitions reached and won.

School Sport magazine is the field’s leading magazine and has curated its coveted Top 200 list for a number of years, combining its previous state school and independent school top 100 lists in 2020 to create the current set up.
The news comes following a plethora of achievements throughout the year, including two hockey students being selected to play for England, the School’s Prep pupils swimming the English Channel, the 1st XI cricket team winning a match against the prestigious MCC, and a Sixth Form student qualifying for Team GB swimming trials.
Recent sport developments to the School’s campus have included the renovation of its main pool, the installation of a golf simulator, the addition of a multi-use games area, and the building of two floodlit AstroTurf pitches set to open soon. The school also has close relationships with Somerset County Cricket Club, Bristol Bears Rugby, Team Bath Netball, Talent Academy Hockey, and more.
On top of this, Taunton School offers an excellent sport science provision, enabling students to access nutritionists, sports psychologists, and athletic development specialists every day, as well as world-class coaches including Marcus Trescothick and Lee Corfield, and personalised performance pathways and weekly sports scholars’ sessions focusing on the importance of movement, nutrition, mindset, sleep and recovery.
