Former The Apprentice Finalist Claire Young Inspires Pupils at RHS Careers Fair

The Royal Hospital School welcomed entrepreneur and former The Apprentice finalist Claire Young as the keynote speaker for its Careers Fair 2025 on Wednesday, 22nd January.

Sharing her personal journey from the reality TV spotlight to building successful businesses, Claire captivated pupils from Years 10 to 13 with her insights on resilience, creativity, and embracing challenges in the ever-evolving world of work.

The Careers Fair returned this year with over 45 exhibitors from diverse industries, employers, and higher education providers, who came together to guide and inspire pupils as they explore their futures.

The fair offered something for everyone, with representatives from fields as varied as the Armed Forces, performing arts, cutting-edge automotive technology, and the intricate world of law. Whether pupils were pursuing specific career ambitions or still considering their options, the event provided invaluable opportunities to learn, discover, and connect with professionals across a wide range of industries.

A standout feature of the day was the involvement of RHS alumni, who returned to share their experiences and offer guidance to current pupils. RHS extends a heartfelt thank you to the following alumni for their time and dedication:

  • Molly Williamson (Raleigh/Drake, 2019) – Birketts LLP
  • Jo Pape (Hood, 2011) – Birketts LLP
  • Evie Thorpe (Howe, 2023) – RSK Group
  • Georgia Ironmonger (Hood, 2023) – Midwich
  • Harry Sargeant (Cornwallis, 2019) – Knight Frank
Preparation played a key role in the event's success, with pupils using tutor time beforehand to research exhibitors, identify areas of interest, and craft thoughtful questions that led to meaningful conversations. From exploring pathways to becoming a barrister to discovering creative roles in construction, the event inspired pupils to think beyond traditional career ideas, connect with industry professionals, and gain clarity on the skills and qualifications needed to pursue their passions with confidence.

Lauren Bayliss-Fuller, Head of Futures at RHS, who organised the event, commented on the Careers Fair saying: “At RHS, we’re passionate about preparing our pupils for a future that’s full of possibility, and the careers fair is one of the standout events in our calendar. Careers education is about so much more than just ‘what’s next’, it’s about broadening horizons, building confidence and helping young people discover how their skills and passions will meet the needs of the future world of work. In a rapidly evolving labour market, where future careers may not even exist yet, events like this help our pupils to adapt, network, innovate and take ownership of their journey.”

RHS is immensely grateful to all the exhibitors who generously shared their expertise and to Claire Young for her inspiring words. Most importantly, we are proud of our pupils for embracing the opportunities presented and taking meaningful steps toward their future aspirations.
