Year 11 prepare for the sixth form

Exeter School, one of the South West’s leading independent schools, congratulates our Year 11 pupils on their excellent GCSE results.

Three pupils have achieved eleven grade 9 GCSEs each and will study a combination of maths, further maths, geography, biology, German, music, chemistry, English literature, history, and psychology for their A Level subjects; all remaining in our fantastic sixth form to continue their studies. This range of subjects shows the rich diversity of academic interests of our pupils and the breadth of options open to them. One of these pupils, Max, currently on holiday in rural Scotland, said "getting enough phone service to call my mum meant walking barefoot up a gravel path near Loch Ness...definitely a memorable morning!” Max joined Exeter School in Year 9 from St Peter’s Prep School and was the worthy recipient of the Inspire and Challenge Exonian prize this year.

A further eight pupils achieved ten grade 9s.  They have done exceptionally well to score so many top grades and we are extremely proud of them. In total 11 pupils scored 10 or more grade 9s, the very top grade.

Our pupils have shone, with 25% of all grades being grade 9. Furthermore, 46% of grades awarded were a grade 8 or 9. 62 of our pupils achieved 8 or more 9-7 grades, of whom 34 achieved ten or more 9-7 grades.   Exeter School’s Head of Sixth Form, Mr Luigi Chu said: “I warmly congratulate all our Year 11 pupils on their well-deserved success at GCSE. My colleagues and I look forward to welcoming them back to school as they embark on the exciting new challenges and experiences that await them in our sixth form, including spending time in our newly refurbished sixth form centre.  A particular well done to those joining in the sixth form as new pupils to the school; we look forward to them becoming part of the Exeter School community.”

Head of Exeter School, Ms Louise Simpson said: “It’s clear from these excellent results that our current Year 11 pupils are hard-working, diligent Exonians who have truly made the most of the excellent teaching, pastoral care, and facilities that Exeter School offers. We are delighted with their GCSE grades, with a quarter of results at the top grade, and almost half at the top two grades, there is so much to be proud of and to congratulate them on. It is excellent also, that so many of our pupils have chosen to stay with us for sixth form, their fantastic results, tenacity, and ability to overcome the challenges that the past few years have thrown at them will pave the way for success within their sixth form programme.”
