Giggleswick School Celebrates GCSE Success as Top Grades Surge by 13%
Year 11 pupils at Giggleswick are celebrating an impressive set of GCSE results today. The
proportion of pupils achieving grades 7-9 has risen to 43.5%, marking a significant 13%
increase from 2023.
Particularly strong performances were seen in Physics and History, where over 70% of pupils earned top grades of 7-9. International pupils also excelled, with 52.3% achieving grades 7-9. The percentage of grade 9s has also seen a notable rise, increasing from 5.97% in 2023 to exactly 10% this year.
Headmaster, Sam Hart, has praised the year group saying:
“I am delighted for our pupils. They worked hard and aimed high. It was wonderful to see their smiling faces when they came into School this morning to collect their results. They have been a super year group, and I am now looking forward to seeing them thrive in Sixth Form and start to take on more leadership roles across our busy and exciting co-curricular programme. I am pleased that, once again, we have seen a positive step forward in our percentage of 7-9 grades.”
Our Head of Sixth Form and Careers ÍÑ¿ã°É, Anne Coward, encouraged teenagers and their families at all schools to think carefully about their next steps explaining:
“When your child is going from studying nine subjects to three or four it can be easy to approach it by asking them ‘what they want to do’ but even for those who already have a chosen career path, young minds change easily! Most university courses accept applications from a wide range of subjects, the exceptions being more traditional careers such as medicine, engineering and law. We have had successful applicants in the past who have combined Biology and Chemistry with History, a Language, Drama or English Literature to give them a good blend of subjects. It’s not too late to reconsider what you want to do next if your results are different to your expectations – whether you’re a little disappointed or pleasantly surprised.”
We are continuing our celebrations after A Level Day last week where our A*-A equivalent results increased by 9% to 44%, and A*-C equivalent by 6% to 89%.
The results see our pupils head off to red-brick and Russell group universities including Durham, Exeter, and Newcastle as well as prestigious places on Degree Apprenticeships with Jaguar Land Rover and The Ministry of Justice.
We are already supporting current pupils with their choices for September onwards. We have limited Sixth Form entry places available for this September for anyone who does not currently attend Giggleswick and are re-considering their options this September.
