Tonbridge students remain ‘on top of the world’ after Trinity Maths win

Tonbridge boys have once more come top in the Trinity Maths Competition, a global contest which tests students’ problem-solving skills under time pressure.

Organised by Trinity School in New York, the latest competition (Winter 2024)attracted 122 teams from Canada, China, New Zealand, the Philippines, Romania, the US and the UK.

Tonbridge entered 12 teams (a total of 72 boys), which placed it on a par with the renowned Pui Ching Middle School in Hong Kong as the largest participating school in this annual online contest.

A team consisting of Toby, Eden, TK, Moncef, Jason and Noah came first in the world rankings, with a score of 910/1000: the second year in a row that a Tonbridge team has achieved the feat.

Another Tonbridge team, featuring Isaac, Alex, Sam, Justin, Ralph and Justin (JH3), came third overall, with a score of 840/1000.

The School finished eighth in the world in the Trinity Maths Competition in 2020 and2022 (with no competition being staged in 2021).

Zi Wang, Tonbridge’s Deputy Head of Mathematics, said: “It was a huge honour to come ‘top in the world’ in last year’s competition, and I am just as thrilled that we have retained our place. All our boys taking part put in excellent performances, underlining the School’s reputation as one of the best for Maths not only in the UK but across the world.”
