Top Local Prep School Wins Reserve Champion Heifer at the Three Counties Show
Pupils from The Elms scoop 14 rosettes and a Reserve Champion prize at this year's Royal Three Counties Show
The Elms School in Colwall were hugely excited to compete at the Royal Three Counties Show last weekend. The much anticipated annual 3-day event celebrates the best of the countryside and rural life, with more than 6,000 animals from the finest livestock in UK on show.
Thirty pupils from the school showed a variety of pigs, cattle and sheep. Every child had worked hard on their showing skills and animal handling, and it was also impressive to see the efforts that each handler put in to prepare their animals for the big event.
The Elms School Farm Manager, Paul Smedley, who also runs the school’s rural studies programme, was thrilled with the children’s results: “I am so proud of each and every one of them for their hard work and commitment. The results reflect much more than just a few days’ or weeks’ preparation and are testament to the year-round care that the whole Elms community gives these animals.
The school is located just a stone’s throw (just four and a half miles to be exact!) from the renowned showground, so they were especially delighted to achieve such success at their ‘home’ show, which included 14 rosettes plus a Reserve Champion award for ‘Curly’ the Heifer and her handler, Harry.
