Elstree School sponsored walk along the Ridgeway

Elstree School 10km sponsored walk raised £6,155 for their chosen charities of Winston’s Wish and Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The pupils, parents, staff and supporters of Elstree School enjoyed perfect springtime conditions for the long-awaited return of their 10km sponsored Ridgeway Walk.

Raising funds for their chosen charities of Winston’s Wish and Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the Headmaster, Mr Inglis welcomed the crowd with an inspiring prayer. Elstree School places great emphasis on teaching children about their wider community and how they can be actively engaged in helping others. Winston’s Wish is a charity that supports children after the death of a parent or sibling – one of the most devastating losses a child will ever face.

Working towards a brighter future for everyone with fibrosis, Cystic Fibrosis Trust funds research, drives up standards of care and supports those with the condition, and their loved ones. The walkers of Elstree school were all enthusiastic and eager to raise funds for such deserving causes.

Up on top of the Ridgeway, it was a fantastic sight to look back and see the ribbon of the Elstree community winding through the open countryside. Rolling green downs and vibrant fields of rape seed were a brilliant backdrop for the school community to reminisce over past adventures and look forward to an eventful jubilee summer.

The refreshment stops were thoughtfully spaced out with both adults and children eagerly devouring the delicious brownies and flapjacks, baked by the school’s catering team and served by the bursary team and willing parents. After the final stretch, the weary walkers followed the road back to West Ilsley Cricket Club, where a finisher’s certificate and ice-cream van were a welcome sight.

Mr Inglis, the headmaster said of the walk, “How wonderful it was to once again see the pupils, staff, parents, supporters and many (mostly) well-behaved dogs come together and join the Ridgeway Walk. This is one of Elstree’s longest-standing charity events, and we are honoured to complete this 10k challenge and raise funds for Winston’s Wish and Cystic Fibrosis Trust, charities who do such fantastic work and we are proud to support.”

This fantastic start to the weekend was only topped only by the generosity of the community, ensuring the school raised a total of £6,155 for their chosen charities.
